Cads Bar: A Premier Hub for Sports, Socializing, and Recreation

Originally conceived as a casual retreat within the Apapa Club, the Cads Bar was created to provide a relaxed and expressive space where members could unwind, share jokes, and engage freely. Designed to foster camaraderie in an informal setting, it quickly became a sanctuary for those seeking open social interaction.

The transformation of the Cads Bar into a formal Club Section was ratified during the 2011 Bi-Annual General Meeting (Bi-AGM) under the administration of then-President Dr. Chiedu Pius Ofulue. This institutional milestone catalyzed the emergence of the Cads Bar as a central hub for sports, networking, and member engagement—cementing its reputation as the Club’s foremost sports bar.

Today, Cads Bar Section stands shoulder-to-shoulder with Apapa Club’s other marquee sections, including Lawn Tennis, Squash, Snooker, Swimming, Table Tennis, and Darts. It exemplifies the Club’s strategic commitment to a holistic recreational ecosystem that equally values athletic excellence and vibrant social exchange.

The section's early development was shaped by Mr. Eric Oji, whose initiative to install a HITV satellite dish redefined the bar as a football-viewing center with a vibrant atmosphere for sports enthusiasts.

Though it began as a smoking lounge, in response to evolving member preferences and in alignment with global health trends, the section has since transitioned to a non-smoking environment—underscoring its forward-thinking approach to member wellness.

Leadership continuity has been instrumental in the sustained evolution of the Cads Bar Section. Over the years, a succession of capable and visionary Captains and Chairmen have championed its growth, visibility, and vibrancy. The Honour Roll is as follows:

The current leadership team continues to drive the section forward with strategic focus and operational excellence. A hallmark of the Cads Bar Section is its continuous investment in upgrades and enhancements driven by their captains and members.

The most recent expansion was delivered under the stewardship of the Club’s Management Committee led by Arc. Chiedozie Udeze, reflecting an enduring commitment to infrastructure optimization and member satisfaction.

The Cads Bar is also affectionately known for serving “mortuary-standard beer”—a tongue-in-cheek reference to its signature offering of ice-cold beverages, which has become a defining feature of the section’s hospitality culture. Membership is open to all registered members of Apapa Club upon payment of annual dues.
In conclusion, the Cads Bar Section remains a cornerstone of Apapa Club life—delivering exceptional value through its unique blend of social, sporting, and leisure excellence.
